Amazon.jp serves as the litmus test for this little experiment, where excitement for Doki Doki Majo Shinpan is currently listed at a fever pitch. How much? Enough that it beats out both a Final Fantasy game(Tactics, for the PSP) and a new Zelda (Phantom Hourglass) for the coveted ichiban #1 spot on the preorder sales list. Keep in mind this represents only theoretical hype  the tactile witch hunt doesnt start proper until July. Import freaks better get your wallet out now if you plan getting your stylus on some jailbait witch booty.

The games developers are as surprised as you are. Over on the Doki Majo blog, the producer of the game sends tearful shoutouts and thankyous to all the tentative witch touchers waiting breathlessly out there in the wings. Sure, its crazy, but with Doki Doki Majo Shinpan, SNK might just be staring down the barrel of a megahit.

In case youve forgotten, DDMS centers around the central conceit of witch touching. With your stylus, you play the role of Akuji Nishimura who is commanded  by an angel no less  to prod, titillate and otherwise examine seemingly ordinary junior high school girls for any signs of latent witchery that might conceivably be lurking under their skirts in the form of a magical crest.

A Barry White level of finesse is apparently necessary for das hexenverfolgungem  play too rough or too soft and the witches will slip from your grasp like a sweatslick plastic stylus on a crowded subway train. Wise man say: Only the master witchtouchers can get a girls heart racing with the slightest brush from of an Inquisitive (you see what I did there?) hand.
